Transfiguration Monastery is home to a small community of Benedictine Sisters who seek to be a sign of God's caring presence to others. Srs. Martina, Germaine & Josepha We follow Saint Benedict's charism, "to seek God in community life and respond in prayer and ministry." (Federation of Saint Scholastica) We are monastics which means seeking God is our primary focus, and this happens in a community of sisters living, praying, working and playing together, and supporting one another.

Our tradition is very ancient and widespread. It was begun by Saint Benedict in the Fifth Century, passed through time to Saint Joseph Monastery in western Pennsylvania, from which we stem, and from there throughout the United States. Transfiguration Monastery is a new branch on this ancient tree, having become a Dependent Monastery in 1998. Becoming an independent Benedictine monastery serving God and others is our goal!

Our Mission Statement describes who we are called to be and to become:

We are a group of Benedictine Women who seek to be a sign of God's caring presence in the world.
By the witness of our monastic community life, prayer, and Benedictine hospitality, we desire to lead others to seek God in their own lives and to respond to their needs.

Faithful to our Benedictine tradition, we pray the Liturgy of the Hours daily and spend time in Lectio Divina, the prayerful reading and reflection of the Word of God. Mass is celebrated in our monastery chapel on a weekly basis. On all other days, we participate in the Eucharist with the parish community of Saint Ann, which is within walking distance from our monastery.
