On January 17, 1998, we received the status of a Dependent Monastery from Saint Joseph Monastery in Saint Marys, Elk County, Pennsylvania, the first Benedictine Monastery of Sisters in the United States, established in 1852.
We are three charter members and an Affiliate, who is discerning her future with us.
We look to our future with faith, a sense of excitement about our ability to plant the Benedictine Charism permanently among the people in the Diocese of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and with a sincere desire to respond to what we believe is a call from God. We are open to a variety of new ways that we and our future members, can best serve the people in this area.
Our need for additional space for Chapel, meeting rooms and living quarters for new members and visitors is a current priority.
As our founding Sisters in 1852, embraced the Pioneer Spirit and the Will of God with fervor, we recall Saint Paul's words of promise to the Hebrews: "...we...should have a strong encouragement to take a firm grip on the hope that is held out to us. Here we have an anchor for our soul..."
